As a teenage cancer survivor, my journey has shaped not only my life but how I see the world. I consider myself lucky to have faced such a difficult challenge at a vulnerable age - my struggles have led me to a life filled with purpose.
After writing You CancerVive - and in between illustrating each page - I discovered I had breast cancer. Here we go again! This book couldn't have come at a better time.
Now as I recover, I spend my days editing, drawing, rewriting, learning and publishing. This project has truly saved my life - both mentally and physically. Whenever fear creeps in, I think about my "Kristoon," and she gives me all the strength I'll ever need.
Co-authors of You CancerVive and founders of Ribbon & Resilience Press. Together they turned their shared experiences with cancer into an empowering illustrated journey that blends humour, hope, and brutal honesty.
At seventeen, I watched cancer take a devastating toll on my younger sister - yet she faced it with fierce courage and humour that left me in awe.
Decades later, when I was diagnosed with breast cancer, It was my turn to be a warrior. Treatment was tough and painful at times, but with my sister cheering me on (and a little healthy sibling competitiveness), I powered through.
After a year of hell, I was able to look at my own experience as a gift rather than a curse. I cleared not only the toxins in my body, but also the ones in my life - finding new purpose, deeper connections, and plenty of laughter. Kris, thank you for being my strength, my best friend, and for letting me help bring this fabulously crazy book to life.
